Should I drop him for Steve Slaton/Chris Taylor?

word is the saints might be interested in him after week 1. that way they don't have to match his salary.
You've got Perry handcuffed anyway. I say keep him for a couple of weeks, see what value he might have. right now, I'd wait and see.

As rsg said, you don't know what is in his future. But if he ends up in N.O. drop him! He would be 4 in line possibly. I don't see that signing happening. As for grabbing Slaton, if you have someone crappy enough to drop where it won't make a difference, he is one that you wouldn't mind taking a run on! -Bruno Boys Ziza www.brunoboys.net

Does this mean anything for his career or is Kevin Smith still the guy in Detroit?

Kevin Smith is the guy for now, but Rudi should be the number 2 back (while stealing some goal line carries) until he learns the offense. If Smith struggles, RUDI should be the guy!!

It's only a one year deal and the Lions love Kevin Smith in every aspect. Until Johnson is completely healthy it is Smiths gig. In fact, this makes sense as they are not fond of Tatum Bell and the only way Rudi will get the RB1 gig is if he outworks Smith in every aspect. -Bruno Boys Ziza www.brunoboys.net

I found this interesting.
According to ProFootballTalk.com, Tatum Bell made off with Rudi Johnson's bags Monday while Rudi was in Matt Millen's office. Seriously. Upon finding the items missing, the Lions checked video surveillance and found Bell stealing the goods. Bell took the bags to a female acquaintance and asked her to keep them for awhile. Johnson has since retrieved the bags and charges will not be pressed. No word yet on whether Bell fumbled the leather items as he made his way down the crowded hallway. Tatum Bell is a WASTE of SPACE. By him stealing Rudi Johnson's gear (though he claims it was a mixup) he probably LOST any chances of landing with a new football team. He had his cake in Denver (2005-2006), but it didn't last long and he might be better suited for robbing grocery stores in the Detroit area than playing football. Also, did you end up keeping on to Rudi Johnson or did you hit the PANIC button and ditch him? To be honest, I think he really cuts into Kevin Smith's value moving forward. I think Smith will still get his touches, and see significant playing time, but we can no longer count on him being the everydown back he might have been if Johnson didnt sign. With that being said, Rudi is bad cut or big hit away from missing time, as he is fragile and very well might not get in all 16 games this season. - Bruno Boys Cavigs www.brunoboys.net
