I have the first pick overall and I think I'm going to go with Peterson. What should I do after that? I am in a PPR league and after doing mock drafts I should either be able to get Reggie Wayne, Greg Jennings, Roddy White or Steve Smith (whoever is available). Is the RB WR WR strategy a good idea or should I go RB WR QB or RB WR RB because later on I can't get much value in the RB position. I am currently trying to work out trades to get two third round picks so I can get Lynch. What should I do???

another good point. which begs the questions, when do you jump out of the RB position to pull WR or QB? so, if

if RB's adrian petersen, turner, jone-drew and forte are gone, then pull a QB?
which WR's if they are gone suggest you jump to QB? fitzgerald? who else?

I think the thing you need to consider is where you pick in the first round. If you can't get an elite running back like Adrian Peterson or Michael Turner, then I don't see anything wrong in selecting a player like Drew Brees. Brees keeps getting better and better in New Orleans and the numbers he's putting up are ridiculous. At the same time, why reach for a running back like Clinton Portis or Steve Slaton in mid-first round when you can get a similar-caliber player in the second.

Obviously choosing a QB in the first round will leave you with limited selection of RBs in the next two rounds but the overall quality of the RB pool has dropped considerably in the past five years, due partly to a lot of teams using two-back systems. The worst thing you can do is reach for a player because you feel the need to fill that position. The name of the game is points, take the player that will bring you the most.

thanks for stopping by the site and taking a minute to check out our forums.

We are just on the cusp of releasing our preseason webazine which would help answer all your questions regarding the RB and WR positions.

Me personally, I would go with Turner and Wayne. Johnson may be a better receiver than Wayne but Wayne has Peyton Manning throwing him the ball. Johnson has Daunte Culpepper and Matt Stafford, neither of which I figure to be too good this season.

But as a I stated earlier be sure to check out our web site in the next few days and get your hands on the preseason webazine. There's more information in it then you'll know what to do with.

Impulsivity and the ability to instantly post things on the internet are a dangerous mix. Throw in egomania and, well, you've pretty much got Chad Johnson's Twitter page. (And, yes, we'll call him Chad Johnson, because that's still his display name, despite the fact that it's easily changeable.)

Anyway, after news of Michael Jackson's death broke, Johnson had a typically measured response:

"Okay, first Mrs.Fawcett and now Mr.Jackson, please tell me that this is a mistaken rumor, if not this is just as sad as 9/11."

That's some good perspective there, Chad.

Can we please put a moratorium on comparing all tragic events to 9/11 (and, for that matter, all evil things to Hitler)? Those are the extremes. The news of yesterday can still be plenty sad without having to break out comparisons to anything else.

Johnson retracted his statement a few moments later, though the apology read like he came to the conclusion his analogy was weak because of responses from fellow Twitter folk not because he realized anything was wrong with it. Still, at least he took it back.

At some point, an athlete is going to say something even more stupid and controversial on Twitter and it's going to lead to a big public outcry.

When it does, it should be interesting to see whether teams ever put in contract provisions that ban players from writing blogs or making Tweets. In this week's Sports Illustrated blogging Washington Wizards center Brendan Haywood tells Dan Patrick that he'd accept it if his team's front office made his writing go through an editing process.

Thanks to athletes like Chad Johnson, that day may come sooner rather than later.

good advice. we were 12 last year and are currently sitting at 6 registered. we are trying to ween out those that didn't participate. likely we'll sit around 8 - 10.

i haven't follow the guys too much this year but my gut says go with turner and johnson. jackson will get you some monster points sometimes but will likely be average

Carlos from Chihuahua, Mexico. I need your advice. I am a back-2-back 14 team-league champ and we can keep 3 players from different positions. I will keep P.Manning as my QB and need to choose one RB between S.Jackson and M.Turner, and one WR between R.Wayne and Calvin Johnson. Whats your advice on the RB? and Given the fact that I have Payton, and that Harrison is out.. what is your advice and reasoning on the WRs?

Picklenator,

I've been wondering the same thing, although my league only starts 2 WRs, 2 RBs and a flex (no TE although they count as WRs). I've been doing at least one mock draft a day (often more though) since early May, and I've noticed that if you go with one of the big three QBs (Brees, Brady, Manning) in the second round, you severely limit yourself on the quality of a second RB or top WR in the third round (assuming you go RB in the first round).

Despite my strong desire to have Brady or Brees as my QB (I had Brady during his 50 TD campaign) I am forcing myself to wait until at least round 5 in all likelihood to pick a QB. That way I can get 2 quality RBs and 2 top WRs (not exactly sure when I am going to take them until I find out my draft position).

Considering you start three WRs, I might consider going RB-WR-RB-WR-WR although you might want to think about picking your TE1 in round 4 or 5 (but then again there are a lot of decent options for TEs out there this year...I've been able to snag Tony Scheffler in round 15 of almost every 10 team mock draft I've been in). That brings up a good point though...how many teams are in your league? It mgiht help us determine a strategy for you.

I was fortunate enough to fall on the #1 spot for the first time in my brief FF career in a league I just joined. This is a 16 team league with standard ESPN scoring (1QB,2WR,2RB,1FLEX,1TE,1DST,1K)

I got a requested trade that would give me an extra 2nd,3rd, and 6th, for my 1st, 8th, and 10th.

The obvious downside is that I am looking at a first pick at the #29 spot. Upside is I have 4 picks in the top 36 for a 16 team league. Just to sum up what it would look like...

I would now have:
29,32,33,36,64,65,93,96,97,129,161...
instead of
1,32,33,64,65,96,97,128,129,160,161...

The guy I would be trading with would be looking at:
1,4,61,68,100,125,128,132,157,160,164...
instead of
4,29,36,61,68,93,100,125,132,157,164...

I like that I can get my whole starting squad in the top 100, and I might try and turn and trade back into the end of round 1 with someone else still since I like some backs that are going there better than some of the top 4 backs. Maybe do like a 1,5 for a 3,3 or 2,3.

I feel like I am getting a better deal, but I'd like people to weigh in before I commit one way or the other.

Big Peeler,

I have heard from two sources that this very well could happen. I still won't believe it until it does, but someone is going to give Harrison a shot. His career path has been simlar to that of Jerry Rice and Rice was able to latch on with Oakland, Seattle and Denver before he retired.

If Harrison does go to the Vikings and Favre signs as well you can expect them to hook up from time to time, but Harrison's fantasy value would be no more than a WR5 or WR6 to start the season.

Just saw this on CBSSports (for what it's worth).

"There's a report in the St. Paul Pioneer Press that suggests that the Vikings are interested in signing free-agent WR Marvin Harrison to push third-year WR Sidney Rice for playing time. The report was penned by a columnist who occasionally posts incorrect information, though he was the first to report that Brett Favre was going to consider surgery on his arm in his attempt to return to the NFL, and that was spot on. "

Granted, it's not from the most reliable source, but NFL gossip is fun to toss around. What's your thoughts on Brett Favre to Marvin Harrison? :-*

. This keeper league will surely be a blast. Even though I'll be a rookie at the keeper style I always welcome the challenge. The draft details will be available around the 2cnd week of July so stay tuned all. Just wanna give as many people the opportunity to get in on the (for newbie who likes the cursing) Mother f**kin, not a very nice person Pluckin, Bigg Tittie Suckin, Make a Mother f**ker shake with fear on the inside league. I want a person to fear Fantasy Football. You wont be able to look a another league the same after being Rocked & Bamboozled on the BB site. The things described in the "not so nice tips'' are just a mere forgleam of whats to come! Time to catch my 12:01 show at the imax 8-)

. Are there any names proposed for the league title? How about the "Fabulous f**kin Fantasiers"

I am in for any keeper league, I haven't done one either, so an all rookie Keeper league may be interesting.

One thing I want Boys and see if you can figure it out. Someone brought it up last year. Do the season through Week 16 and prior to Week 17, have a redraft with just the division Champions, just to give one guy bragging rights

d**n the weirdest thing! I was just told about this site and I just joined it. Didn't draft on it yet. So tell me why do you think it's better than espn? I like espn for the simple fact that I can get the draft results e-mailed to me. Although I have to admit that the quality of drafters is surely missing. A BB nation member told me about the draft caculator site. How long have you been using it and tell me please its pros and cons! Welcome to this side of the bridge also! Now you must become a JETS fan. even though the Vet/ Linc is closer, dont leave the state. Shoot down the turnpike to the Meadowlands! As a matter of fact you can take the River Line! Slaya OUT! and no not of my mind!

Being a Brett Favre lover I have to admit I am getting all jazzed up about the possibility that he plays again in 2009. Favre's crazy in-game antics, decision making and living on the edge style has been fun to watch for over a decade and I don't want it end (even if every other pass is an INT).

From a fantasy football standpoing, if he returns to Minny, I think he plays as a middle of the road QB2. He will have some memorable fantasy games and some others that make you want to throw your remote at the TV. Typical Favre style!

Also I love all of the Favre drama. He's without a doubt a sure Hall Of Famer! He's tough as nuts and his attitude is that of a Stud. I'm glad to have been enjoying his play, and watching the league and fans submit to his Superiority. I dont think there has ever been a player before to demand the attention the way he has. Except for that d**n OJ with the f**kin Bronco chase! The other greats such as Rice, Sanders and the others never did go against the grain like Favre. I hope he goes to the Vikings and nuts on Greenbay both games

i like it only because it gives me the egde during the draft when I pick up 2 uncuffed backs. Two guys that I know share the ball(especially in the red zone) with NOONE!

Seriously, has the whole RBBC thing altered Fantasy Football more than anything else in the past few years? I used to think it was just a stop-gap measure for teams that either were worrying about over-using their stud RB, or possibly buying time until their rookie sensation came of age. Instead, it seems the majority of teams now implement this strategy for a number of reasons, all to the chagrin of us Fantasy Football players.

Granted, it has made us strategists use our brains a bit more when filling out our backfields, but I for one pray for the day when they go back to the "one stud and one dud" backfield. Any thought?
